Apartment Review for Portofino - San Antonio, TX

If you enjoy bad service, horrible response times, and non communication from office staff, you will thoroughly enjoy this community. I lived in 3 (1BR, 2BR, 3BR) different units in this complex over the term of 5 years. Essentials like hot water and air conditioning are difficult to come by. I waited over seven months to get hot water – and it only worked if all four units of my building were occupied. Their answer “We’re working on it, we can’t figure out what’s wrong.” My air conditioning wouldn’t get below 78 degrees. Their answer “Well you live on the second floor – you’ll never get it as cold as you want in here. We’re not talking about the laws of physics here – we’re talking about the laws of air conditioning.” I had to leave work early - or go in to work late - so I could be home to ensure they would work on any maintenance call I requested. Every time I had a problem with something, they would only reply “It’s working as best as it can.” The owners have changed about four times in the past three years, and the staff has changed more than that. The maintenance staff (composed of both men & women), seem to change every few months, so there is never an experienced person who knows your unit enough to solve a problem. They try to put a band-aid on every problem, and will never follow up with you to ensure your satisfaction. The property manager always answers “I wasn’t here when that happened last time, I can’t answer for it.” I asked the maintenance woman how often they sprayed for insects. She said only when I call the office to ask for it. NO WONDER I killed three roaches (what she called water bugs) in a 24 hour period. here’s trash all over the complex. Dumpsters frequently fill to over flowing. Back pool is frequently closed and water is green. Dryers in clothes facilities don’t work properly and generally take two cycles to dry enough. Being a 5 year tenant with excellent rent history, payments on time, and no bouncing checks meant nothing – they didn’t work to keep my business – people don’t matter to them as long as they get their rent checks on time. Even then, it once took over 45+ days for them to clear my rent check. They offer no compensation for inconveniences. No AC over a weekend = “Sorry, I can’t give you a break on next month’s rent because then we can’t afford to fix issues” Beware before moving in. Rent rates go up but service has dwindled. You definitely don’t get what you pay for on this property.
